Narrow Gauge Day! Help us celebrate as we begin another season of continuous train operation between Durango and Silverton since 1882. Join in the fun and festivities on Friday (Narrow Gauge Day). Silverton summer train season begins May 7.
11:00AM-2:00PM
We’ll kick off summer with the annual FREE PICNIC and community celebration at the Durango depot. Our volunteer staff will be grilling hot dogs for members of the community. Enjoy a hot dog, chips, cookie and soda while jamming to the Bar-D Wranglers who will be performing on the lawn in front of the depot.
Interesting railroad equipment will be on display including the Galloping Goose** and select cars from the Presidential Train. Tours will be available and we invite you to visit the free D&SNG Railroad Museum where new exhibits are added regularly. The model train is beloved by kids of all ages and is continually receiving enhancements. Also, be sure to check out the Animas River Display featuring a 600 gallon aquarium currently stocked with rainbow trout.
Representatives from Four Corners Bee Association, Bayfield Belles and Operation Lifesaver will be on hand to share information about their organizations.
** The Rio Grande Southern Galloping Goose #5 will offer one hour train excursions from the Durango Depot (MP 451.52) to Event Park (MP 456.65). Three departure times are available.

We are fully open for operations and our 2022 summer season is off to a wonderful and robust start. We experienced a brief pause in railroad operations over three days while we worked through communications with the Forest Service on our operating status while observing agreed upon fire precautions. Concurrently, we were able to rebook passengers to adjacent days when train excursions were operating.
We are now operating daily and our train schedule is in fact expanding as we move deeper into the summer season.
Please know that if we experience any interruptions in service due to future fire precaution levels, we will reach out to all of our guests in a most timely manner to offer information and alternatives.
Thank you”
